about

so shortly after releasing brave new nothing, we parted ways with mike a second time. again drummerless, we enlisted the help of jason ratliff (30 amp fuse, nug jug), with whom we practiced for several months and played one show before he had to quit for a job opportunity. finally ending almost a decade of drummer-shuffling, we stuck gray back there and got our friend and colleague john baker to fill in on guitar. after another long stint of teaching the back catalog to yet another new member, we had a fully functioning band and a handful of new songs ready to record.

we recorded a slew of tracks over at shed 55 studio with dave dewitt, who couldn't have been easier to work with or more proficient. for the rest, we bounced mostly between gray's home logic setup and john's baker acres studio. it was another slow-paced project, but we did it all for next to nothing and we were afforded the luxury/curse of being able to really refine sounds.

about 75% of the way through recording, we decided it was time to put the band to bed. lives had become increasingly complicated and it was frustratingly difficult to consistently get everyone together to play, never mind enthusiastically. so we gathered whatever steam was left and wrapped up the album with the 10 songs we had complete. we knew almost immediately that we were going to put it and everything else up for free and let the world do with it all what it will (it's weird to ask for money for a band that no longer exists, and it's frankly getting absurd to pay for cd manufacturing for even existing bands these days).

thus endeth the saga of westside daredevils. we never made a lick of money, but we self-produced 4 albums, played scores of shows, traveled all over, made lifelong friends with fans, promoters, club owners and other bands, and came out the other side of it all more or less intact with loads of stories, some of which we can even tell.

a deep and sincere thank you to all those who have been a part, big or small, of the daredevils' journey all these years. we hope you enjoy this last little bit of our ramshackle legacy.
